Congratulations on taking the first step to becoming and staying fit - committing to training together at Higher Calling Martial Arts is a great start. I would like to challenge all of you to GET FIT.  When I say this, I am speaking of many different areas of your life.  I want to challenge you to get fit spiritually, intellectually, and yes of course physically.

How do you get fit spiritually?  Well, you need a plan, just like anything else.  You need to set a plan and follow through with your plan - which is many times easier if you have someone to help you along the way and also help you stay accountable.  Let me give you some suggestions on some plans you might make.  Maybe, you ask your parents if you can have a family devotion time.  Maybe pick up a family devotional book and work through it at the same time each day.  Begin and or finish this time with prayer as a family.  Perhaps you would like to start a Bible study with a group of your friends.  This is another way to exercise your spiritual muscles.  Attending church is also very important.  If you are not yet plugged into a church, I encourage you to talk with your family and see about visiting some nearby churches to find one that fits your family. You can always talk to me as well and I can offer some suggestions.

Now once you have a plan to become spiritually fit, let’s try to make an intellectually fit plan as well.  There are several ways to do this as well, so let me give you some suggestions.  First and foremost have a Pil Seung spirit when it comes to your school work.  Don’t just do enough to get by.  Make sure you do your very best and don’t give up when things get hard.  In addition to school work, why not add something else to your daily lives.  You might want to find an educational program that you begin watching or maybe you and your family can begin increasing your vocabulary by adding a new word each week, memorizing the meaning, and using it throughout the week.  Maybe you can look for trivia together as a family as well.

As you put into practice a plan to become both spiritually and intellectually more fit this year, don’t forget to continue to work on your physical fitness.  Keep coming to martial art classes.  Work on patterns, speed drills, and techniques at home.  Add some strength training to your daily activities as well.  Try setting goals to add some push-ups and sit-ups each day.  Begin using focus mitts and airshields at home.  Stretch each day to keep those new built muscles flexible.

Make it your goal this month to set some GET FIT goals.  Work as a family to keep each other accountable.  And most importantly, have FUN while you do this.
